Fourth grade wax museum

The fourth grade project for February was to read a non fiction book about someone who had an impact on the history of America. Evan chose to read about Daniel Boone. He really enjoyed the book and all the stories about the American frontier and the adventures those pioneer people had. He did think it was strange that Kentucky was the "wild west" at that time. Looking at the map it's hard to believe our country didn't go very far west at that time!

The day of the museum was really cute. Each student was seated next to their desk and there was a button you could push on the desk that would have the student stand up and be in character and tell you a 1-2 minute speech about themselves. I was able to go and push several of the kids buttons and they all did a great job. Evan's about Daniel Boone was excellently done, or course!

President's Cup - St. George

This past weekend we were able to go to St. George to watch Evan play in the President's cup soccer tournament there. It was a long 4 day tournament with only one game a day until the finals. We traveled down and stayed at our friends the Zortmans home in Cedar City. The first game we tied 0-0 and the second game was 3-3. Luckily we were able to advance to the semi-final game which we won in a shoot-out of penalty kicks. It was a nailbiter. The final game was a hard fought battle which we lost. All in all a great start to the outdoor soccer season. Evan played very well and gave it all he had!! So much fun.

Citizen of the Month

Ethan was chosen for the Citizen of the Month at his middle school this month. Today we attended the luncheon and Ethan was honored by the principal and the faculty. He was nominated by one of his teachers and then every teacher he has any association with has to sign off on the nomination. Then he was chosen from the list of approved students! We are so proud of Ethan and his desire to do good and be a great citizen. I couldn't agree more with this award! Way to go Ethan.

Pizza Party

Grandpa Irv sent Ethan some money for his birthday that specified that he needed to have a pizza party with it. So last night we ordered from Dominos and had a feast. We had 2 pizza, 2 cinastix, buffalo wings, and soda! It was such a big treat for us...thanks Grandpa Irv.

Ethan's 13th birthday

Ethan's birthday started out at 6am...he's such a morning person! He had a hard time getting us to get up at that time, but I think we were up at 6 30 to give him his presents. This year he asked for a bigger bike, something about how his knees hit the handle bars on his old bike. So his wish was granted...a new Schwinn bike! He also got 2 bottles of apple juice because he says we "never" have any juice in the fridge. We actually do, but it's "always" being drunk so it's hard to keep it in stock. He also got some new books to read, a helmet and supplies for the bike, some M&Ms, new pants, and cash!
Then that evening we invited both sides of our families over for some cake and ice cream. This was our first experience of being around for a birthday. We were so excited to share the celebration with all our families. And so many people came. We had over 40 people here and fed them all yummy cake and ice cream. It was a fun night and a perfect birthday for Ethan!

Our newest teenager!

Yep, tomorrow I become the mother of two incredible teenage boys! Wow. Ethan will turn 13 tomorrow. His birthdays are always weird for me because he always seems like he's older than he turns. He's just an old soul in a teenage body! We are celebrating tomorrow with mint chocolate truffle cake, brownies, ice cream and all the family that can attend! It will be a full house...all to celebrate the gift of Ethan!

Girls Night Out!

Last Friday McKinley and I went on a girls night out. We left after Evan's soccer game and got some yummy dinner while we talked about her new school and new friends and living in Utah. She's doing so well!

After dinner we rode tracs up to the University of Utah vs. Stanford women's gymnastic meet. U of U is ranked 4th in the nation and Stanford is ranked 2nd. It was a wonderful meet. It brought back a lot of memories of my gymnastic days and I saw the glow in McKinley's eyes as she watched those athletes compete. She has taken gymnastics for almost a year now and she loves it and is good at it. Her little body is strong and flexible and she works hard. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did as a child. We laughed and clapped and cheered for University of Utah. After 3 rounds it was tied!! After it was all over, Stanford eiked out the win. Even so, we had a great time. She especially liked riding the train with the huge crowd of people. On the way home she fell fast asleep. A perfect GNO!
