Easter Egg Hunts!

This year was a busy year for Easter egg hunts. McKinley had one at school with her kindergarten class, Evan and McKinley went to an egg roll at the soccer fields, and then wealso got invited to a friends house for another egg hunt on Easter night. Each one was fun and McKinley and Evan were good egg hunters. Austin and Ethan also found their eggs (with monetary incentive inside) after a good egg hunt in the back field!! Good job everyone!

Chickens grow FAST!!

Our cute, fuzzy chicks have quickly grown in to stinky molting, full feathered chickens! It's amazing how fast they grow. We are excited to have 2 brown, 2 black, 1 highlighted brown, and an all white chicken! They have been moved to the garage with their heat lamp as they are getting the rest of their feathers. We look forward to them being able to be outside where wild animals should be! For now, we take them out for "walks" and let them roam around a bit. They really are spoiled chickens!

Easter Eggs

For Family Home Evening this week, I decided our activity would be to dye Easter eggs. It's one of those things that I realize McKinley has not done (or won't remember having done). Too many times I think I've done that so many times, but she was too young to remember. I'm glad we have here around to keep up with these fun activities. And everyone seemed to enjoy it too...even the older kids. So now, who wants deviled eggs?

Evan's First Cub Scout Derby

Last Friday night was our cub scout derby race. Evan had printed out a picture of the car that he wanted to make and then spent a couple weeks making it happen. David and Evan were able to cut out the pieces at our friends house and then Dave, Grandpa Irv, and Evan worked on bringing the car to life. They all did a great job and the car worked great. Evan tied for 1st with his best friend Trevan...couldn't have been a better outcome. Good job Evan and all of pack #441!!

New project

For the past few years I have wanted chickens. Well, really I've wanted fresh eggs and that "farm" feeling I grew up with. I want my kids to have some of the childhood I had. I grew up on a horse, with chickens, sheep, and lot's of experiences. My children are more urban. So...

We got 6 chicks to raise!!

My little project turned out to be more expensive than originally thought (isn't that always the case?) and will probably never be a good return on my investment, but nevertheless it's an investment in my kids. They will be able to watch the chicks grow, feed them and clean up after them, and gather their eggs.

So, basically, I have a mini farm in my living room at the moment. Stinky, loud, funny chicks in their heat lamp environment in my living room. Three weeks and they should be able to go outside. Six to eight weeks they can go in the coup. Eight months until our first eggs. We shall see... if Jag (the dog) will have any say in that!

David's Big Birthday

March 20th was David's 40th birthday. We celebrated by going to Laredo...yes, Laredo.

David had a job to do there and wouldn't be back until later that night, so he invited me to go along with him and stay in Laredo overnight. It is always good just to spend time with him, so I agreed to go along. I worked on homework while he worked during the day and that night we found a nice hotel on the Rio Grande, just a stone's throw from Mexico. It was a beautiful hotel with incredible flowers and landscaping.

That night we decided to go for a walk around the downtown area, but quickly realized that everything was closed and locked up and bars on the windows, so we headed back to the hotel. I think the hotel was hoping the area would turn around!!

We spent the next day driving back and looking around at home improvement stores for ideas for our patio. Then it was home to dinner and cake and ice cream. A quiet birthday celebration with family...just what Dave wanted!

Missions Tour with Mom

My mom was here from Washington this past week and we decided to go and tour the San Antonio missions together. I had been there with friends last summer and she had never been. The two of us took off for the day and had a great time.



We visited San Juan, San Jose, and Conception. We saw the gristmill and the churches and had a lovely lunch downtown afterward. It was a nice day!
