New project

For the past few years I have wanted chickens. Well, really I've wanted fresh eggs and that "farm" feeling I grew up with. I want my kids to have some of the childhood I had. I grew up on a horse, with chickens, sheep, and lot's of experiences. My children are more urban. So...

We got 6 chicks to raise!!

My little project turned out to be more expensive than originally thought (isn't that always the case?) and will probably never be a good return on my investment, but nevertheless it's an investment in my kids. They will be able to watch the chicks grow, feed them and clean up after them, and gather their eggs.

So, basically, I have a mini farm in my living room at the moment. Stinky, loud, funny chicks in their heat lamp environment in my living room. Three weeks and they should be able to go outside. Six to eight weeks they can go in the coup. Eight months until our first eggs. We shall see... if Jag (the dog) will have any say in that!

My parents are doing the same thing right now. My mom said the neighborhood kids love coming over and seeing the chicks. Though the first couple weeks when they needed to be inside, she said it really got stinky. That's a fun project. Good luck!
