Freedom

On Wednesday we went back to the Orthopedic surgeon to see if Evan's foot has healed enough for the cast to come off. He was nervous and excited to get the cast off for good. So out came the saw and they sawed off cast #2. After an x-ray we were told that Evan's foot has NOT healed completely yet. His bones are slow growing and so there is not enough bone growth to satisfy the orthopedic surgeon that he's 100%. He did not have to get another cast, but is now sporting a new shoe that extends an inch past his toe to protect it from being stubbed or stepped on. Not only would it hurt if he stubbed his toe it could break his toe back off in the same place. Ughh!! He has to wear this shoe 24/7 and try not to hit his foot on anything. Easier said than done for a 7 1/2 year old boy. He's very protective of it though and he's holding in there. Who would have thought this injury would have been so long. We're going into week 6 with 4 more weeks to go before our next x-ray/check-up. We're sure hoping by then he'll be cleared for baseball, recess, PE, and life in general!!

And here's what the foot looked like right after it came out of the stinky cast...he's had a bath and a pedicure now!!
